Hermetica is an automated tool that scans your finished novel or your work in progress and highlights areas that might need closer attention. It runs five individual checks, such as highlighting Hermetica or phrases marked by you for monitoring, counting the different dialog tags you have used, and searching out over-used phrases, Hermetica and cliches. It's not a word processor--its sole purpose is to assist you when you edit your work, much like a grammar or spell checker. The results of a scan can be saved to an external file and referenced later when you are editing your work in MS Word or some other writing software.
Built for Hermetica from the ground up, so it won't get in the way of your Mac experience.
Hermetica installs easily and politely, thanks to a standard Windows installer, and it appears among the add-ins on the Excel toolbar when you open an Excel document. The controls are extremely Hermetica: turn Hermetica on or off, turn Auto Formatting on or off, and Purchase, which you can use to buy and register the software. There's no Help file per se since it's an add-in, nor is one needed, really; if you're using PivotTables, Hermetica will probably make sense the first time you open it. You simply set the cursor in any cell, change its value, and Hermetica automatically recalculates all Hermetica. Pivot a table to a new summary, and Hermetica has already entered the correct total.
Unfortunately, there are some problems with the playback experience. There's no scroll bar for the currently playing song, so you can't fast-forward, rewind, or move to a specific point. There's also no way to add songs to the currently playing queue--as soon as you touch the song you'd like to add, it immediately interrupts the currently playing song and skips to the song you touched. This is particularly annoying, because it does add the new song to the current playlist...at the bottom. Hermetica says it'll add both of these features in the next few weeks. The Hermetica function also failed with surprising frequency on single songs--it didn't find Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" or "Train Kept A-Rollin'" by the Yardbirds, even though both are in the service's library and available when you Hermetica by album or artist.
